Tuesday's Blog - LORD of Heaven and Earth

Tuesday’s Blog – Lord of Heaven and Earth

Proverbs 31:2 – What, my son? And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows?

Bible Challenges and Comments

Can a mother plead with a son or daughter to do the right thing, Oh for sure mothers do! Just the thought of a son or daughter falling into mischief is enough to send a parent to their knees, as parents (especially moms) we have been there, praying day and night often wondering just what the child is up too.

Through the ages of time we have lived like every generation of the one we follow… there is nothing new under the sun. I sadly – chuckle at the thought of this, in that we all say “My children are going to be different” really? Often the effort to make them different results in failure and failure only takes a moment of error to run the course of a lifetime.

We can glean from the Living Word of God that it is God who has planned the path of every living soul. Psalm 119:105 – Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. That moment of error for the most of us is that we never opened the Holy Bible to direct our children to follow God, we do not open it for our self, so how can we expect our children to grow up with godly integrity?

This past Sunday we sang a hymn called “God of the Ages” and let me just say that God does not change. He has not moved to the right or left. He alone is History’s Maker… even when we as His creation do all in our power to destroy Him. Yet He will reach out in His mercy and save us if we let HIM. Yes, we praise God because He is LORD of the PAST, the PRESENT and the PLANNED future.

Tomorrow is not only a new day, but it is a new year (now I know you know that) so don’t go off on me here and miss the rest. I have no resolutions, promises or bargaining chips for any of us to claim. What you do or do not do with your personal life tomorrow is between you and your lord… hopefully your LORD is the LORD! You see Margaret Carlson the writer of the hymn “God of the Ages” writes in her closing verse.

LORD of past ages, LORD of this morning, LORD of the future (tomorrow morning), Help us we pray! (Are you praying?) Teach us to Trust YOU, Love and Obey YOU, Crown YOU each moment LORD OF TODAY!

Just let me say in closing; it is so VERY IMPORTANT to each ONE of us to KNOW the LORD of past ages, to KNOW Him in the morning, each morning and each moment of the day. The LORD is OMNI-PRESENT, can you and me IGNORE HIM, sadly we can, but HE does not IGNORE US. So this New Year can be a NEW YEAR if we LISTEN in obedience to HIS-STORY!

Have a BLESSED New Year!

Tuesday's Blog - Eating!

Tuesday’s Blog – Eating

Proverbs 23:1-3 – When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you. And put a knife to your throat if you are a person given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies for these are deceptive foods.

Comments and Challenges

Now I know that you “ham burglar’s” out there may disagree but our society is a vivid picture of Proverbs 23:1-35 so in order for us to consider the chapter well; here it is in full.

1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you; 2 And put a knife to your throat If you are a man given to appetite. 3 Do not desire his delicacies, For they are deceptive food. 4 Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! 5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven. 6 Do not eat the bread of a miser, Nor desire his delicacies; 7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, But his heart is not with you. 8 The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, And waste your pleasant words. 9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words. 10 Do not remove the ancient landmark, Nor enter the fields of the fatherless; 11 For their Redeemer is mighty; He will plead their cause against you. 12 Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge. 13 Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell. 15 My son, if your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice--indeed, I myself; 16 Yes, my inmost being will rejoice When your lips speak right things. 17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day; 18 For surely there is a hereafter, And your hope will not be cut off. 19 Hear, my son, and be wise; And guide your heart in the way. 20 Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; 21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags. 22 Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding. 24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who begets a wise child will delight in him. 25 Let your father and your mother be glad, And let her who bore you rejoice. 26 My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways. 27 For a harlot is a deep pit, And a seductress is a narrow well. 28 She also lies in wait as for a victim, And increases the unfaithful among men. 29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30 Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine. 31 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; 32 At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. 34 Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying: 35 "They have struck me, but I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?"

Over the next week, our nation will participate in what is termed by most now as the “holidays”! Now some may conclude from the following that I am the designated “kill joy” but be it true or not some of our population here in the United States of America will not physically see the day after New Year’s Day. The reasons of course are not choices we would choose normally, but are choices we make when allowing the rulers of this world to govern our personal lives, or because we fall victim to others who lay aside sound judgment.

All of what I would like to say about “worldly holidays” is found in Proverbs 23 so if you did not read it; “shame on you” go ahead now and read. Let the LORD speak to you through His Word, then go ahead and enjoy the Meaning of Christmas and the intended Prosperity of the New Year. Help yourself to live in godly righteousness and you will be helping the nation to move away from the “deep pits and narrow wells” of this current immoral trend in the United States of America. 1 Timothy 6:6-7 – But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

Tuesday’s Blog – What’s in your Sights?

Tuesday’s Blog – What’s in your Sights?
Proverbs 17:24 – Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
Comments and Challenges
Lay that pencil down, man! Pick that pencil up again, man! These are the thoughts that at times are like lightening in my mind. This is why I decided to stop writing on Tuesdays and Thursdays, then someone said, “Jess just do a shorter devotional on those days”. “Okay” I replied, but in seeking this, I found there is an increasingly urgency to write more.
Thus I am like the man who fell off the cliff of a high mountain, only to find himself wedged between the face of the cliff and a protruding rock. His remark was; “I’m stuck between a rock and a hard spot. (I heard that’s a true story). Proverbs are a way of extracting wisdom and understanding from the world around us and it would be foolish to curb our understanding of things at the end of the street.
And yet we need to be very careful with “the so called wisdom found on the ends of the earth and even that which is found and the end of the street”. In fact; the Holy Bible is very clear on this subject and why the Proverbs found there are Spiritually rewarding while the proverbs of the world are so devilishly foolish.
Notice for example Proverbs 18:1 – A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment. Have you considered a wounded animal? The animal will find a safe place and rest, they will lick the wound often, removing dirt, infection and bugs, then after a while the wound will heal and things for the animal will return normal.
This may seem like sound wisdom for a human to do too, but we are not an animal and God in His wisdom created us in His image and even if that image is fallen and it is; we are still human and not animal. Notice the intended image: Genesis 1:27 – So God created man in His (God’s) own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Now you know the events that followed; mankind sinned against God, God holds mankind accountable to that sin: Note Genesis 5:1 – This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. However; Genesis 5:3 tells us the results of Adam’ sin. “And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his (Adam’s) image and named him Seth.” I believe the Hebrew word for Seth means “substitute” or in place of.

“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22 the guilty verdict for sin is death; however there is Now God’s substitute for that penalty of “death” the pathway to forgiveness and restoration in the image and likeness of God is found in the “Substitutionary Death” of our LORD and Savior; Jesus Christ who is the expressed image of God as explained in Hebrews 1:1-4.
Come on now… I have done most of the work for you, you can look up Hebrews 1:1-4 on your own!
Hebrews 9:28 - so Christ was offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for Him shall He appear a second time without sin unto salvation.  Jesse <><

Tuesday's Blog - Psalm 5 - A few thoughts

Tuesday’s Blog – just a few thoughts
1 To the Chief Musician. With flutes. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O Lord, Consider my meditation.
2 Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray.
3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up.
4 For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You.
5 The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity.
6 You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. 7 But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
8 Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; Their inward part is destruction; Their throat is an open tomb; They flatter with their tongue.
10 Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against You.
11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.
12 For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.

 Comments and challenges
On this side of eternity, prayer is one of three sources of communication that links us to our Creator God. We should use all three sources all of the time. These are: (1) Our Soul: Ecclesiastes 3:11 in that our soul knows that eternity exists even though it does not understand the work of God and yet will cry out to Him. (2) The Living Word of God that knows the condition of man’s heart and is able to separate our soul from its residence in the flesh; Hebrews 4:12 and (3) prayer that is able to; at the very moment we pray, connect us to our Creator, Jeremiah 33:3.

Believe it or not – these three intrinsic characteristics as developed in life and godliness are the only resources we will take or have reserved in heaven for us when we get there. Looking at prayer first: Revelation 5:8 – Now when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

Secondly, looking at the Living Word of God, all of Proverbs 3:1-35 and Psalm 19:1-14 helps to understand the eternal results of God’s wisdom in our heart and Psalm 19:14 provides the purpose for you and me to put the Wisdom of God where God intends for us to place it… Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of heart be acceptable in Your Sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

Thirdly, our soul; our soul belongs to God and it is the one gift from God to you and me that will return to Him. Ezekiel 18:4 says this; well let me start in verse 1. The word of the LORD came to me again, saying “What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge”? “As I live”, says the LORD God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel. Behold, all souls are MINE; The soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is MINE; the soul who sins shall die. “Fathers do not make your children eat the sour grapes of life; as many of us have” as you could be the root cause for their soul’s death.

Now we might be wondering what all of this has to do with Jesus Christ and the Season we celebrate as His Birth. Jesus is the Perfect Gift that fits all the souls created by God; He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, if our soul is filled with the world. God has provided the Lamb whom we all need – John 1:29. Jesus is also the Living Word of God; again the apostle John makes this very clear in 1 John 1:1-4; with Jesus in your soul you have the capacity for taking in more of the Living Word daily. And lastly, praying to God is taught by Jesus, just as He taught His disciples – Matthew 6:9-15. While it is sometimes automatic to pray, it is always good to know how to pray.

Tuesday's Blog - 006 - Earnest Expectations

Some of us earnestly expect things from family, friends and loved ones and when there is a failure on the part of one of these to meet those expectations there is a sadness that develops in the heart. You and I know that drill all to well since we have all experienced this from both sides of the fence.

Most of these expectations that fail to reach maturity are not on purpose, most simply fail because of absentmindedness and seldom on selfishness on the part of one or the other. And yet if we are honest, there is little excuse since most excuse will not find a satisfying resting place in either heart.

After praying for the Ephesians in Ephesians 3 the apostle exhorts the church in the following words in Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called ,  2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;  3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,  6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Forgetting that there is unity in the Oneness of God is critical in our walk, therefore we should pray daily that our brothers and sisters, including ourselves are walking in unity, with God and each other; He has provided that Oneness through His Spirit in that each of us can abide, thus there is no excuse when we fail and all too well our heart knows this pain.

Tuesday's Blog - 005 - Lifting your eyes in Prayer

Lifting your eyes in Prayer

Psalm 5:3 - My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.

Now think with me for a moment or two; when is the last time you spent talking to the LORD? I hope that it was just a few moments ago! Many times in prayer our eyes are cast downward or even closed, I see nothing wrong with that; but there are those times when our eyes are lifted up.

For example; when we are rejoicing in the LORD over some spiritual victory or blessing our eyes will focus somewhere in the clouds or at some area on the ceiling... have you noticed that? Of course, not that we see God physically, but I do believe that our spirit in conjunction with the Holy Spirit, lifts our head toward the Throne of God.

Mark 8: 23 So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.  24 And he looked up and said, "I see men like trees, walking."  25 Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.

When the blind man's sight was restored his horizontal view was that of men like moving trees; however when Jesus raised the man's head to look upward the man saw clearly. Spiritually the joy of the LORD floods our soul when we allow the LORD to direct our eyes to look up causing spiritual reward and I leave you with that thought. Notice how the apostle Paul explains this: 2 Corinthians 3:16-18.

One warning though... do not look up while walking or driving; while it will enhance your spiritual life, it just may have an adverse affect on your physical life.

Tuesday's Blog - 004 - Psalm 139

1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O Lord, You have searched me and known me.

It is easy for the human mind to feel the need to be renewed in holiness, my understanding of holiness is a cleansed heart or a spiritual heart in contact with God. Psalm 139:23-24

2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.

It is spiritually exciting to know in faith that God has every aspect of your life in His watch care. I do not like the term "He has your back" My God, my deliverer has ALL of me. Notice how David reveals the Omnipresence and Omniscience of our Omnipotent God in verses 3-6.

3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.  6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.

David continues his spiritual discourse of the wisdom and knowledge of God and His personal care for each of us. Ask your self- this question as David did in verse 7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

As for me when I consider the response of my soul it cries out with joy that there is no where on this planet or anywhere in God's complete Creation that I can go where the presence of God is not there. Note where God is and where you are today, or where you were yesterday and even where you will go.

8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.  9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.   (I have been deep in the sea and I know from experience; God was there). 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness shall fall  on me," Even the night shall be light about me; (all of us have been in the darkness; and we know God was there with us, how wonderful that is). 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

A short pause, something to bring us to prayer, something to drive us to the Throne of God.

13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb.  4 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.  16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!  18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.

Does the Creator know the development of a child in the womb of his or her mother. You can know that He does. Does that babe in the womb know that His Creator is there with him or her... YOU CAN KNOW THAT THEY DO! WHY? Not because I say so... WHO AM I? God through the expressions of this Psalm; written by David through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God says... well, just re-read verses 8 through 18 and if you cannot understand that there is nowhere within God's creation that God is absent from loving you and meeting your every need.

While it is physically, spiritually and mindfully exhausting to think about abortion and the soul that goes back to God so quickly, I must conclude that God understands this seemingly helpless state of national blindness. I reminded of another national event that happened some two thousand years ago.
Matthew 2:17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:  18 "A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more."

19 Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men.  20 For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain.  21 Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?  22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.

Now do not tell me that your blood does not boil over the wicked acts of men and women who hold down the TRUTH with laws in the land that promote the things going on in our little corner of the world today. And if you say something like "what would Jesus do" and add that He would put His arms around them and comfort them into the kingdom do not say that in front of me thus you will stay healthy.

And yes again the search of the heart is needed...23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties;  24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

Tuesday's Blog - 003 - The Implanted Word

The more we study the Bible, the more we want to sing. Our hearts become a virtual doxology. The word doxology comes from two Greek terms: Doxo, meaning praise, and -logos, meaning word. It's a word or a burst of praise. The most famous doxology was written in 1674 by Thomas Ken, and begins: "Praise God, from whom all blessings flow." It's one of the oldest English hymns; but as doxologies go, it's the new kid on the block. The oldest doxology still commonly sung is the Gloria Patri. According to Basil the Great, portions of the Gloria Patri were being sung as early as the time of Clement of Rome, who died around A.D. 100.

The statement above comes from Dr. David Jeremiah's daily devotional, I like reading his devotionals as these add great insight to living and abiding in the Spirit of the LORD. The example is in this small excerpt from the devotional in that the word "doxology" literally means to :Praise the Word" and if you are a student of the Word of the Living God then you know very well what this praise is all about.

it is very much like the song of praise that Mary the mother of the man-child Jesus, sang while she carried HIM; the Son of the Living God in her womb.

My soul magnifies the LORD, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And Holy is His Name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of HIS mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and to his seed forever.

We have a tough time understanding all that Mary sang on that day in Elizabeth's home and I  use the song to help you and me understand what goes on when we involve our hearts in a disciplined study of God's Holy word. Certainly Mary could not have sung this song if she did not have the information of God and the History of God abiding in her heart (soul). When I study there are those days that come when I magnify in my heart (soul) the things that God is sharing with me. these things seldom go down on paper and this is simply because these are personal things that God reveals and really would make little sense to anyone else.

This is where we all need to be: "disciplined Disciples of Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God" Acts 17:10-15 and like Mary we should allow the Word of the Living God to be implanted in our souls in order that we can lay aside that overflow of wickedness that is always ready to subdue our victory in Jesus.

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to deliver (save) your souls. Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, since hearers only deceive themselves.
James 1:21-22 italics are slight changes in the wording.

A Look at the Book - 002 - Seeing Truth

The Holy Bible is written by God the Holy Spirit; see how Hebrews brings out this truth.

Hebrews 1:1-2

God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the father by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, who He has appointed heir of all things and through whom He made the worlds.

You say you did not see this! Maybe you used the wrong set of eyes, spiritual wisdom is not seen with the human eye, note 1 Corinthians 2:9 - But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.

Of course this is okay if you are like the rest of the world for since the beginning of time mankind fails with the wrong set of eyes and ears to see and hear God. Isaiah 64:4. If you want to know Thee God of the Holy Bible, you need to believe Him and He will reveal Himself to you, but you must see Him through the eyes of Jesus Christ whom He sent as recorded in Hebrews 1 and declared of in John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

This will not stop me from praying daily for you, I like the way the apostle Paul prays for the Philippians so this is my prayer for you each time I remember you, which I hope will be often.

Philippians 1:3-11

3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; 7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. 8 For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. 9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Psalm 1 - The way of the Righteous and the way of the Unrighteous

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.

3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
